توضیحات
Power has been at the heart of global politics ever since the beginning of recorded civilization. Powerful states have always controlled and influenced weaker states through military and political coercion. However, due to the progression of an increasingly globalized world, states have become interdependent on one another for survival. They are unable to risk large conflicts in fear of mutually assured destruction or the economic and political consequences following a war. Yet, the world is more than ever unable to punish small incursions on international law by superpowers due to the power disparity in modern geopolitics. International scrutiny of human rights violations and corruption are seemingly at their highest. However, when those enforcing those trends turn against the standards they worked to put in place, there is no force strong enough to punish them. As such, this phenomenon of aggression and influence is especially present amongst relationships between hegemonic states like the United States, China, and, previously, the Soviet Union. This book aims to use the lens of offensive realism to delve deeper into the causes and motives for such phenomena and analyze the case studies of the Sino-Taiwanese relationship as well as the North Korea and Soviet relationship of the 20th century.
