Radio Antenna Handbook for SHTF: OH8STNPragmatic Ham and CB Radio Antennas for Field DeploymentIn a grid-down crisis, your ability to communicate comes down to one thing: getting a signal on the air that actually works. The antenna decides whether that happens.Written by Julian (OH8STN), this book focuses on antennas that perform in real field conditions, not in perfect textbook installations. This is not an academic study of antenna theory. It is a practical field reference built from real deployments, subarctic operations, island activations, and off-grid exercises.Inside you will find:• Straightforward wire antennas for reliable regional and long-distance communication• Practical vertical and shortened systems, including their real-world trade-offs• NVIS deployment guidance for dependable regional coverage on 80 m, 60 m, and 40 m• Clear explanations of compromise antennas and when to use them• Practical field setup advice, counterpoise management, and troubleshooting methods• A grounded look at CB and 11-meter antennas from a physics standpointWhether you are a licensed amateur operator or using CB as part of your preparedness plan, this handbook helps you select, deploy, and troubleshoot antennas based on mission requirements, terrain, and realistic constraints. This is about repeatable results with limited power, limited time, and less-than-ideal conditions.73Julian OH8STN
